If
you cannot see the menu of buttons in the left hand margin of your
Browser screen, then you may need to change your settings, or have
a problem with running Java programs on your computer, or you may
be using an older Browser which does not fully support HTML
frames. You should also be aware that there are many makes of
Browser (Netscape is a popular alternative to Microsoft's Internet
Explorer). Non-Microsoft Browsers will often behave erratically
when rendering a framed website.
The first thing to do
is to check your Cache settings. Run Internet Explorer. Click on
Tools and Internet Options. In the Temporary Internet Files panel,
click on Settings. Ensure that in "Check for newer versions of
stored pages" there is a bullet in "Automatically". This
will ensure that the Java Applet used to generate buttons and
other dynamic effects is loaded afresh each time.
If you still cannot
see the buttons, close down your Browser, exit from any other
programs still running and then shut down your computer. Restart.
You may be able to see the buttons on running the Browser again.
You should also force a reload of the website by simultaneously
pressing the Ctrl and F5 keys to see if the
buttons appear. If not, try the suggestions below. If these don't
fix the problem, then contact your computer supplier.
Java Download
From March 2004,
Microsoft have been legally barred from the supply of Java related
software. Anti-trust legislation brought by Sun Microsystems (the
legal owners of all things Java) in the USA has resulted in the
Microsoft Windows operating system being supplied without a Java
capability. Without Java, your computer
will not be able to use the Internet to full effect.
Your computer supplier
will normally have installed Java for you but, if not, you can get
Java for Windows yourself direct from
the Sun Microsystems website. Click on the link below and follow
the on-screen instructions. The
download is free.
